Dear Oxford and Lafayette High School 9th graders:
It was our pleasure having you come with your classmates to tour your career and technical school, The TECH, Oxford-Lafayette School of Applied Technology, this week. We noted your interest in one or two of the seven courses that are taught here at The TECH. Please research the curriculum for our courses at the school’s website: www.thetechms.org.
We believe that career-technical classes can be an important part of a student’s educational and career plan. One of our goals is to help to create economically self-sufficient adults.
Labor Department statistics consistently show job availability and growth in health-care occupations, business, and industry segments related to our course offerings. Significant job growth is forecast in the health sciences and technology-related career fields.
Our classes prepare students for further education at the university, college, or technical-school level, as well as for entry-level jobs in the workforce. At The TECH we provide career planning and counseling services, as well as employability skills such as oral and written communication and interpersonal and social skills. We work with our students in a caring school environment.
Our classes are two-period electives for 9th-12 graders at Oxford and Lafayette High School.
Students are transported by bus to the campus on Highway 7 South. Upon completion of your course for the school year, credits towards your graduation will be given. For a two-period course it will be two electives, or health science will count towards one science credit.
February 2014 is the month scheduled when you will complete your choice sheets. You will select courses for your next school year. Space is limited in all career technical courses, so if you are interested make sure you get scheduled in a TECH course. We gladly invite your parent/guardian to come to visit The TECH. Just call and set up a tour with Mrs. Lynn Sloan, M.Ed., TECH Counselor. Mrs. Sloan’s telephone extension is #19, call 662-7526.
